"And Mary said, 'My soul glorifies the LORD and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior'" ~Luke 1:46-47
When this candle is lit, we remember the joy that is in Christ's coming, both 2000 years ago and today.
Joy at Christmas time is easy. The decorations are put just right, kids hearts are filled with laughter, everyone is smiling and full of the Christmas spirit. Or are they?
How many times at Christmas have you said these words: "I am so busy, I am burnt out on this Christmas stuff", "These lights are driving me crazy, I swear next year, no more decorations", "If you ask for that toy one more time, Santa isn't going to bring you anything", "Everyone wants a handout at Christmas time, I just can't give anymore", "I hope they don't show up at the party this year, they get on my last nerves". The main toes I am stepping on here are mine...and these are NOT joyful phrases.
It seems that these days, the things that are supposed to bring us joy, only stress us out. This post is basically me in a nut shell, and when I started writing it I thought, wow, I am doing a good job of taking the joy out of a holiday I love so much. I stress because my house isn't clean enough for guests, that the presents are not wrapped just right, that there is never enough time for me to be everywhere. So I started thinking, how can I take a moment to remember the joy this season is supposed to bring? And then it hit me...Charlie Brown!
I have watched the Charlie Brown Christmas Special about a million times, and this part never gets old:
So when you find yourself forgetting the joy this Christmas season because of all the hustle and bustle. Take a second, watch this video, and remember what Christmas is all about!!
